While I had a kindling interest in politics before finding the Friendlyjordies channel on YouTube in (I want to say) 2014? It was through him I heard about Noam Chomsky, and from that bizarre link I stumbled into anarchism and that minor interest became a greater focus as the years went by. Created by Jordan Shanks, the Friendlyjordies channel has been a counter to the mainstream media narrative here in Australia, with the clear aim of showcasing Coalition failures and giving a platform to the usually neglected or misconstrued Labor Party (with, you know, actual evidence to support his claims and views). It’s been a long ride, but he’s getting too big to ignore.

Greens to Decide Party Leadership Vote

The Greens’ party membership will soon be voting on how they will move forward in the selection of their Parliamentary Leader on a Federal level. Currently, this is limited, like other parties, to the MPs in the Federal Parliament, with members and other levels of government left out of the decision-making process. This vote, depending on the outcome, could retain the status quo or change the direction of the Greens Party.

Greens Leadership Vote Lacking

In a sad turn of events, Richard Di Natale has stepped down as Parliamentary Leader of the Greens. He has resigned from the role, and will leave the Senate once a new Leader has been voted in. It is that vote that leaves much to be desired, as some other Greens members and politicians have expressed since the announcement.

Media on the Bushfires

I commented on Twitter the other day that I’ve been a bit more attached to the social media platform in the past week or so, primarily to see personal accounts from those who are in the affected regions. But not everyone uses Twitter, and of those who do, there’s a fair share of questionable content that some can get lost in (i.e. those downplaying the extremity of this crisis, or the causes). “Traditional” (like newspapers, but also liberally applying that label to TV and digital media) media is still very important as it shapes a lot of opinion and knowledge.

Labor and Greens Divide Is Petty Factionalism

Hell hath no fury like a Labor supporter who cannot handle even the slightest criticism of their party or who has an aneurism every time someone mentions the Greens. I’ve been at the receiving end of some rather defensive and dismissive statements for daring to suggest Labor still has much to improve upon, or that there are alternatives. Greens voters aren’t faultless either, being unable to view Labor as a viable option against the Coalition given the sad reality of politics in this country. What we end up with is… nothing, the Coalition keeps winning.

Labor Has Mixed Approach to Unions

This year, however, following their “surprise” election loss, they’ve opted for a more distanced approach from one of their greatest backers. Both on a State and a Federal level, there has been cause for praise and alarm, regarding policies that Labor has supported, from the Unions.

The Bushfires Are Inherently Political

People, activist groups, and political parties have all been accused of “politicising” the tragic bushfires that are ravaging Queensland and New South Wales. They are doing this by trying to bring attention to the climate emergency and holding the government accountable for their ignorance and inaction. But it wasn’t us who started it, and as someone who just found out their best friend is on high alert* to evacuate their home because it might burn down, let’s lay it out for the dense fuckers who can’t comprehend reality.

Sky News Is Deaf to Reality

To say this of any of the Murdoch press seems pretty redundant, seeing as their sole purpose is to spread misinformation and spark divisions between people while corporate money flows behind the scenes. You can’t even call it ‘deaf’, because they can hear it loud and clear, yet ignore it wilfully, either intentionally or out of stupidity. A recent Chris Kenny interview with BCC Councillor Jonathan Sri is a blatant case of this.
